Metal and Water Elements used to decorate a living room.

In a feng shui consultation for an existing building, decoration themes and objects are used to balance the qi (pronounced chee) in the home or business premises.

The Qi is classified into five types of water, wood, fire, earth and metal.

These five types of qi combine in the sectors of a building, the sectors are the different points of a compass.

Some of the five types of Qi, also known as the five elements,  combine in a harmonious way whilst some combine in a disharmonious way.

Interior decoration is often recommended to enhance the positive qi combinations and to improve the disharmonious combinations.

When a consultant advises placing a reg rug in the hallway or  changing the bedspread to deep blue or placing a round gold mirror on a wall, they are using common decorator items, colours and shapes to introduce one or more of the five elements to that area to enhance or balance the qi.

when this is done correctly, the room or area feels as though it has had a lift or it may feel calmer and more comfortable.

The qi combinations also specific effects or influences on our lives, when the positive one are enhanced with decoration then that affect is increased whilst the undesirable effects are minimised.
